The MND Association’s Richard Cave has been awarded a prestigious international accolade in recognition of the support he provides for people living with motor neurone disease (MND).
Richard, Speech and Language Therapy Project Manager, was the winner in the Allied Health Professional category and is a leader in the field of voice banking both in the UK and globally.
In his role with the MND Association, Richard supports people living with MND who do not have access to a therapist or cannot voice bank by themselves to record their voices each week.
His knowledge and expertise has been invaluable to the development of the e-book I Will Always Be Me, where individuals across the world can bank their voice from the comfort of their own home. Richard has trained over 1,000 therapists in the process of voice banking, has written and presented internationally on the subject, and regularly hosts free training sessions online.
Richard firmly believes people living with MND must be at the heart of decision making for new
technological developments and focuses on bringing their lived experiences to everything he is involved in – with a recent example being the launch of Google’s new accessibility app, Project Relate. He is also an active member of the International Alliance’s Innovation and Technology Advisory Council, which makes recommendations regarding technology and innovation strategies to benefit those living with and affected by MND globally.
“Richard is an international figurehead in the fight against MND. He literally gives thousands of people living with the disease a voice."
Nick Goldup, Director of Care Improvement at the MND Association
