I am a doctor, a Consultant Radiologist in the NHS for the past 25 years, during which time I also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Salisbury Hospice Charity from 2007-13.
My brother-in-law entered my life when I was 7 years old and we have been very much "brothers" over more than 50 subsequent years. He was in his prime when diagnosed with MND in 2009 and he continues to live with this disease. Although, in common with many many others, our family has been forever changed by his illness, the spirit and courage shown by my brother in law and sister have been and are an inspiration to many, a simple example of his approach being his alternative version of the acronym MND as Must Never Despair!
The MND Association has been alongside my family throughout our journey. I now want to offer all I can to support its vision of a world free of MND, through its support of patients and their families, together with the promotion of first class research. I hope sincerely that my extensive medical and charity experience can be assets to the Association going forward.
