Members of the MND community and fans of Coronation Street have taken to social media to share their reaction to Monday (9 September) night’s moving episode, which saw popular character Paul Foreman die of MND in hospital.
Paul, played by actor Peter Ash, received a diagnosis of motor neurone disease in April 2023 after experiencing problems with his grip. Viewers have since seen Paul encounter many of the physical and emotional challenges faced by the 5,000 people in the UK living with MND right now.
Reaction to the episode on social media was immediate, with many praising the episode for its ‘sensitive insight’ and commending Peter and his co-star Dan Brocklebank for their ‘well-researched’ portrayal. However, many described the episode as ‘too difficult to watch’, while sharing how grateful they were for the increase in awareness.

While the fictionalised version of MND captured the attention of millions of Corrie fans, an advert from the Association’s Love Inside campaign - which aired straight after Monday’s episode - showed the reality of MND in moving detail.
The new 90 second advert featured Mike Sumner and his wife Zoe, Mike Small, and Dr Louise Jordan her husband Rob. The extended film shows the powerful connection people maintain with their loved ones, despite the devastating impact of the disease.

Peter Ash is nominated in the Serial Drama Performance category at the National Television Awards. Voting closes at 12pm on Wednesday 11 September and the winners will be announced later that day.
