Leading MND researcher Professor Rickie Patani is encouraging people to join the fight against MND by signing up to become a Cure Finder.
Professor Patani, a consultant neurologist at the world-renowned Francis Crick Institute, is supporting the MND Association’s September Appeal, which was launched today, September 2.
The appeal focuses on the importance of Cure Finders, a group of supporters who specifically choose to support MND research through regular monthly donations.
Much of Professor Patani’s work, which focusses on the use of stem cells in understanding motor neurone disease, is driven by money raised by Cure Finders and, through the appeal, he is urging more supporters to join the team.
He explained: “Becoming a Cure Finder is one of the best possible ways you can support MND research, because every single pound you donate each month goes directly to support it.
“You don’t need to be an MND expert to help find a cure. You don’t even need to be a scientist. Whatever your background, whatever your reasons for getting involved, you have a something to offer in the fight against MND. Month by month, you could help bring that cure closer, while giving families hope.”
As little as £5 could help to fund the costs of laboratory equipment, while £20 a month could help towards the cost of running a clinical trial into potential new treatments.
As a Cure Finder, members are given access to the Cure Finders online hub, which provides regular updates on progress as well as exclusive articles from some of the world’s leading experts in MND research.
