New appeal focuses on the financial impact of MND

FOR some people living with motor neurone disease (MND) choosing between the cost of a healthy meal and keeping the electricity on has become a heartbreaking reality.
With MND putting a huge financial burden on the households affected and with bills continuing to soar, many families are now finding they are having to make impossible choices when it comes to their health and wellbeing.
In 2024, the MND Association helped to ease some of that burden by offering £3.4 million in grants to people living with MND – an increase of £1 million on the previous year. Now, as demand for help continues to surge, the Association is launching a new appeal which could help more people living with MND and their families to get the support they so desperately need.
The Association’s Direct Marketing Manager, Alison Holmes said: “Findings from the MND Association’s Through the Roof report, which were compiled from a survey of our members, show that more than half of people are struggling with paying their household bills and 52% worry about being unable to pay their mortgage.
“This is at a time when these same people are coming to terms with being diagnosed with MND – a terminal, neurological condition.
“People affected by MND shouldn’t have to worry about whether they can eat healthily or use vital equipment and the MND Association is determined to help.
“Through our March Appeal, we are urging our supporters to get involved. Donating just £10 could allow us to support more people living with MND through our support grants service – giving those affected one less thing to worry about."
The appeal features Diana, who is living with MND and has found support from the MND Association with a cost-of-living grant.
