13 January 2023 Care
Devon and Cornwall NHS commissioning have joined forces with the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association to improve care for people living with MND in the South West.
The new funds will enable the South West Peninsula MND Care and Research Network to expand by recruiting an additional care co-ordinator in Devon.
Care co-ordinators provide a single point of contact for someone living with MND to ensure a joined-up approach to their care needs.
Chris Bennett, Head of Regional Care Partnerships – Central and West, said:
"Our successful negotiations with the NHS mean better care for people living with MND. The MND Association was previously the sole funder of the Network, so it is great to develop this partnership with the NHS to co-fund this vital support going forwards. It also ensures the Network can continue to develop and deliver excellence in care provision in the South West."
The Network, which has provided care for people with MND for 14 years, recently changed its name to better reflect its work in both MND care and research. Currently, the Network is running seven clinical trials across the Peninsula and hopes to add more to the portfolio in the coming months.
